Playing 100 holes of golf in just one day is not an easy task but the dedicated golfers in the 2005 Heinzerling “100” Golf Marathon insisted it was fun, challenging and “a great way to raise money to benefit the residents of the Heinzerling Foundation”.
This all day outing took place on July 11 at Oakhurst Country Club in Grove City. The club served a hearty breakfast at 6:30 a.m. and by 7:30 a.m., the golfers were ready to tee off. The format was simply a best ball, one person scramble. Each golfer teed up, drove three balls on each hole, chose the best lie of the three, and played all three balls from that spot. They continued this format until reaching the hole . . . and that was considered the equivalent of three holes of golf! The golfers continued in that manner until they each played 100 holes of golf!
Of course, there was plenty of food and beverages on hand to keep the golfers going during the day and a celebratory dinner was held in the evening.
Ryan Wanner took the first place prize which was based upon the number of sponsors that he recruited to sponsor his participation in the outing.
This unique golf event brought in nearly $11,000 in proceeds, all of which will benefit the 208 residents of the Heinzerling Foundation.
