The Heinzerling Foundation Zoo Walk took place at the Columbus Zoo on Sunday, October 1, 2006, at 5:30 p.m.

The weather was perfect for the event, and over 180 children and adults came to the Zoo to participate. Guests were treated to a barbeque dinner courtesy of Rich's Products, and potato salad and cole slaw courtesy of Gordon Food Service and Sandridge.

Participants were encouraged to raise sponsorship money for their participation in the Zoo Walk. The more money a participant raised, the greater his or her chances were of winning a digital camera, a telescope, or various other prizes.

The following prizes were given to all guests that raised certain levels in sponsorship money:
• $100-$249 – a drawstring backpack, hat, water bottle and note cube
• $250-$499 – a blanket in addition to the gifts for raising $100-$249
• $500 or more – an embroidered fleece jacket in addition to the gifts for raising $100-$499
