Heinzerling Memorial Foundation

The Heinzerling Memorial Foundation (HMF) opened in 1979 on a 50-acre campus in Southwest Columbus. The facility has completed several renovations to update and add additional space for offices and resident living areas.

HMF is often referred to as “the children’s building” because it offers care and services for children and young adults who are under the age of 22. HMF is also the location of the main office for Heinzerling Community.

Shelter House and Outdoor Sensory Environment

Individuals living at our locations enjoy access to our seasonal shelter house and outdoor sensory environment. The shelter house, built in 1999, is used for staff and resident parties, cook-outs, and other fun events. The outdoor sensory environment was constructed in 2012 on the wooded area adjacent to the shelter house. It provides stimulation of all of the sensory systems with a textured walking path, water features, a raised garden, play panels, musical instruments, and swings. It is completely accessible and serves as a gathering place for residents, families, and staff in a beautiful outdoor setting.
