Heinzerling Foundation Walk for MR/DD

The first annual Heinzerling Foundation Walk for MR/DD took place on Sunday, October 2, 2005, at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. The Walk for MR/DD is a family oriented non-competitive walk for individuals of all ages and abilities. The event had two (2) walking courses from which to choose, one being a shorter route and one being a longer route for more experienced walkers. Walkers were encouraged to walk in honor of a loved one or to show support for those with MR/DD. The registration fee was $15 per participant, which included admission to the Zoo, food, opportunity for prizes and a t-shirt. Participants were challenged to seek individuals and/or businesses to sponsor them in the walk, and those bringing in the most sponsorship money received prizes. The 1st place winner was Michael Grinko. Participants, their individual sponsors and the event sponsors helped to raise over $13,000 to benefit the residents of the Heinzerling Foundation. Mark your calendar for next year's Walk for MR/DD on October 1, 2006!
